Our Living Planet From Space
(0) | 24/11/2017 | Translate: Life. It’s the one thing that, so far, makes Earth unique among the thousands of other planets we’ve discovered. Since the fall of 1997, NASA satellites have continuously and globally observed all plant life at the surface of the land and ocean.
NASA & TRAPPIST-1: A Treasure Trove of Planets Found Seven Earth-sized planets have been observed by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope around a tiny, nearby, ultra-cool dwarf star called TRAPPIST-1. Three of these planets are firmly in the habitable zone. Over 21 days, NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope measured the drop in light as each planet passed in front of the star. Spitzer was able to identify a total of seven rocky worlds, including three in the habitable zone, where liquid water might be found. The video features interviews with Sean Carey, manager of the Spitzer Science Center, Caltech/IPAC; Nikole Lewis, James Webb Space Telescope project scientist, Space Telescope Science Institute; and Michaël Gillon, principal investigator, TRAPPIST, University of Liege, Belgium. The system has been revealed through observations from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and the ground-based TRAPPIST (TRAnsiting Planets and PlanetesImals Small Telescope) telescope, as well as other ground-based observatories. The system was named for the TRAPPIST telescope. - After A 9-Year Journey, This Spacecraft Will Finally Reach Pluto Imagine the stretch of outer space along the Milky Way like a 4.67 billion mile highway from planet Earth to Pluto, the former most-distant planet. Imagine NASA's New Horizons spacecraft, an interplanetary space probe, has been traveling along that highway for nine and a half years since its launch from Earth in January of 2006. This week, on July 14th, at approximately 7:50 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, New Horizons will fly past Pluto and its five moons. Realistically, it's the first time we'll ever see Pluto. We have zoomed in on images from the Hubble, but the resolution is highly pixelated and leaves a whole lot of mystery to this distant body. You can follow along on the flyby on NASA TV live broadcast program, which will be live streaming all active communications from the spacecraft.

- How to Land the Space Shuttle… from Space Presented on Halloween (October 31st) at Stack Overflow’s 2016 Remote Meetup in Philadelphia. This was one of nine "Tiny Talks" given over three days at the meetup. And, of course, either you succeed on your first try, or everyone dies. So, no pressure…. In this talk, I'll show you how space shuttle designers, pilots, and autopilots managed to do just that.

SpaceX's first four space tourists landed on Saturday, September 19, 2021 in the Atlantic Ocean after spending three days in space traveling farther than the International Space Station (ISS), up to 590 km above sea level, spinning in orbit at approximately 28,000 km / h.
- Jeff Bezos in space with a Blue Origin rocket Tuesday, July 20, 2021, nine days after billionaire Richard Branson's space trip aboard Virgin Galactic's VSS Unity spacecraft, Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and the richest man in the world, also surrendered, accompanied 3 other passengers, in space aboard a capsule powered by the reusable New Shepard rocket from his company Blue Origin. Take-off took place from Launch Site One, the company's launch base located in West Texas, then the capsule was dropped at an altitude of 75 km to then slightly exceed 100 km in altitude, space border according to the International Aeronautical Federation. After 3 minutes of orbital flight, for a total flight of 11 minutes, the capsule made its return to Earth, braked by three parachutes and retro rockets. The New Shepard launcher also returned to a landing pad near the launch site.
