the Biobag, an artificial amniotic sac, allows a premature lamb to complete its development. The Biobag is a type of plastic bag which mimics an amniotic sac. The lamb located within an electrolyte solution, similar to the amniotic fluid, which protects it from the outside world.

The lambs receive the supply of nutrients and oxygen by means of an associated pipe with the umbilical cord. The Biobag successfully tested in preterm lambs developed normally into the bag for 4 weeks. Scientists and doctors hope the Biobag could help premature babies and for people.
