Friday 9 August 2019, the crew of the catamaran ROAM noticed a strange formation in the Pacific Ocean surface outside the Kingdom of Tonga. This is an 'island' of millions of pumice, with an area of 150 million square kilometers (for comparison, Paris has an area of 105,4 km²), which was formed after the eruption of a volcano near Tonga on 7 August. The lava diffused from the volcano, and then cooled by the ocean, created this huge mass of pumice rose to the surface, forming this gigantic prairie stretching to as the eye can see in the South Pacific. According to some scientists, if the stones they reach close to Australia to 7 with 10 months, could help restore the marine life of the great Barrier Reef, as they hosted several organizations such as corals and crabs.
