Hydromorphism with explosives, also known as HERF (High Energy Rate Forming), or exploformation, is an alternative to the more traditional metal hydroforming. Unlike the older method, where the metal is formed by means of a pressurized hydraulic fluid pumped into a forming chamber, the HERF technique uses an explosive charge to generate the required pressure. Although the explosive charge is relatively small, is capable of producing sufficient power to convert these gas tanks into a spherical shape.
