This is a TIG welding (ή GTAW), using a tungsten electrode and argon gas. The electrode together with the weld metal form an electrical circuit, and an electric arc is created at the point of welding. In this welding method the arc melts the welded metal, and not the electrode. Argon gas comes out of the welding gun, and is used to protect molten metal from oxidation.
