The electric arc furnace is a huge refractory boiler in which metals from three huge graphite electrodes are melted. You can also see in the video a cooling system that constantly sprays water on the surface of the electrodes. The smelting furnace is used for smelting scrap and ore. Its biggest disadvantage is the huge energy consumption and electric melting is efficient only when carried out on a large scale. The theoretical amount of energy required to melt 1 ton of waste is 300 kWh.
