The blacksmith on the left, shows with his hammer where and with what force the other blacksmith must strike with the sledgehammer. The blow to the anvil indicates the force of the blow. Double hitting the anvil means repeating a light blow at the same point. Hitting the hammer horizontally on the anvil means “stop”.
