On August 21, 2022, residents of the city of Haikou in Hainan Province in China were able to observe an iridescent cloud. Iridescent clouds are a diffraction phenomenon caused by small water droplets or small ice crystals scattering individual light. The light refracts giving the cloud a colored appearance.
