The artificial horizon or gyroscopic horizon, is a flight instrument that informs the pilot of the aircraft's orientation relative to the Earth's horizon. The miniature aircraft and horizon line mimic the relationship of the aircraft to the real horizon. At the heart of the artificial horizon is a gyroscope spinning at high speed, and allows the spherical horizon in the instrument to remain constant while the aircraft rotates.
