A buffalo thought he could beat a rhinoceros. However, he quickly realized he was wrong. If the rhinoceros had its horn too, it would be perhaps the last battle of the buffalo. In some African game reserves and national parks, rhino horns are cut off as part of precautionary measures to protect them from poachers. Rhino horn is made of keratin, the same material that makes up human hair and nails, therefore its removal is not painful for the animal. The horn is removed every 1-2 years. During this period, the horns can grow back to their original length. A kilo of horn is sold on the black market for about 60.000 up to 100.000 USD. In some cases, the price can reach 400.000 dollars per kilo, making rhino horn one of the most expensive illegal commodities in the world.
