In Asia and especially in China, Korea and Vietnam, cockroach farms have become a common part of the local industry. These farms breed cockroaches under controlled conditions and use them for various purposes. One of the main areas is traditional medicine, where cockroaches are used to produce medicines said to be beneficial in treating inflammation, burns or digestive problems. Substances obtained from cockroaches are also used for the production of antibiotics and in the cosmetic industry for the production of regenerating creams. However, in some countries, cockroaches also become part of human food, thanks to their high protein content and the low ecological impact of their reproduction. They are eaten fried, dried or powdered, which are added to meals as a nutritional supplement. They are also used as animal and fish feed.
