Optical fiber splicing using electric arc fusion is accomplished by first stripping the ends of two optical fibers of the protective coating. Then, these ends are inserted into the welder, which aligns them with great precision. The electric arc created by the welder heats and melts the fiber ends, thus uniting them into a homogeneous whole. This process minimizes optical losses and maintains the mechanical strength of the optical fiber.
