This chemical reaction is called 'Chemical iodine clock' (iodine clock reaction) and starts from a solution of hydrogen peroxide with sulfuric acid. Added to this is a solution containing potassium iodide, sodium thiosulfate and starch. After some time the colourless solution changes color to a very dark blue, almost black.
