This reportage from the newscast channel RTR Japan, presents the art of creating square watermelons. The harvest is done in Shikoku Island, where the watermelons grown within metal boxes that are checked several times a day from farmers. The method was originally designed as a way to improve the transport and storage of watermelon, but the square shape worked to the detriment of taste. Now very few watermelons grown thereby, and sold only for decorative purposes.
