The artist and craftsman Yasuo Okazaki transforms a piece of wood in a traditional Japanese Kokeshi doll. In a nice video, shows the various stages of the construction of (woodworking, painting etc.).
The Kokeshi dolls are manufactured from the early 15th century in Northern Japan. It is said that women in Japan during the feudal period (~ 1600) in conditions of absolute poverty kill their babies, so be not condemned to hunger. A Kokeshi doll made for each child who was dying so you don't forget. Later, the doll was used as a toy for young children and as a souvenir for tourists.
