Laser lights can sound dangerously like technology spotlights, but in fact it is more safe and effective even than the LED lights that once circulated in production cars. Laser light is filtered to make it safe for the eye, and has an output of 170 lumens per watt, compared to 100 lumens per watt of an LED headlamp. Also, laser projectors have twice the 'range' of LED projectors. The BMW presented the new technology at CES 2015, and e.on as an option for model i8, Although the Department of transportation in the United States still has not approved technology.

The car uses various sensors and data sources to form the laser light so as to avoid blinding other drivers, to automatically adjust the angle of the headlamp when climbs or descends a hill, and shortens the distance on a well-lit Street.
