The Swedish company Autoliv has developed a very powerful braking system, which can reduce the stopping distance of a vehicle up to 40%. This clever device called Torricelli brake, It consists of a flat plate resistant and a vacuum pump. When braking, Slate falls on the road and the vacuum pump is activated, which has the effect of 'sucking' the car to the ground. The system inoperative, over 70 km / hour for safety reasons. At 50 km / h, the braking distance is reduced by 4,5 meters.

Many traffic accidents are caused by the delay in braking. With this invention, the company Autoliv says it could revolutionize road safety in urban areas. The device was developed at research unit in Sweden and named after the physicist Evangelista Torricelli, especially known for the invention of the barometer.
