The village of foxes in Japan

Animal shelters are something very common in Japan, but this is one of the most unique places you've seen. The sanctuary is called “Fox Village of Zao”, and there can be seen over 100 foxes from six different species.

The area is covered with trees and natural vegetation, and is located near Miyagi Zao mountains. When entering, visitors are allowed to see the foxes up close, as they roam freely around the area.

In Japanese culture, Fox, not only is considered an intelligent animal, but a mystical deity of fertility, prosperity, and rice. The foxes are also known as the messengers of Inari Okami, who is the patron saint of swords and dealers.
