The first double hand transplant in the world, took place at children's Hospital of Philadelphia in the U.S..
The operation lasted more than 12 hours. The team led by L. Scott Levin, and Benjamin Chang, included 12 surgeons, 8 nurses and 4 anesthesiologists.
The recipient, Zion, 8 years old, lost his arms and legs at the age of 2 as a result of a dangerous infection. He also had kidney failure as a result of the infection and underwent a kidney transplant at the age of 4., with his mother as a donor.
